Press Release on the Visit of Honourable Minister for Foreign Affairs to Italy
Honourable Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nepal, addressed the 44th Session of the General Conference of Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) at FAOHeadquarters in Rome, Italy, this afternoon.
Addressing the Session, the Honourable Foreign Minister said that the Constitution of Nepal guarantees every citizen’s right to food, freedom from hunger, and food sovereignty and upholds the right to a clean and healthy environment. These provisionsmandate the Government for sustainable management of natural resources providing a strong and inclusive foundation for promoting the “Four Betters” in agriculture—better production, better nutrition, better environment, and better life—through its progressive legal provisions, she shared with the international community.
While expressing that the Government of Nepal has given high priority to transforming the agricultural sector in line with the global “Four Betters” framework to build a sustainable, resilient, and inclusive agri-food system, the Honourable Minister said that Nepal values its enduring partnership with FAO. She appreciated FAO’s continuous technical support in areas such as policy development, strategy design, food systems transformation, and climate-resilient rural development.
Earlier this morning, speaking, as the panellist in the ‘High-Level Roundtable: Four Betters for Small Island Developing States (SIDS), Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs)’, the Honourable Foreign Minister shared that agriculture in Nepal is the people’s livelihood, source of nutrition, identity as well as resilience. Therefore, the Government is putting efforts towards building a sustainable, inclusive, and resilient food system, the Foreign Minister added. The Honourable Foreign Minister also attended the Official Opening of the 44th Session of the FAO General Conference.
